# BNB Chain SRB

Learn how BNB Chain staking rewards are calculated. BNBSRB covers gas-fee validator rewards, commission, the 7-day unbonding period, and the deflationary BNB Auto-Burn.

BNBSRB is a benchmark representing the mean, annualized staking rate across all active BNB Chain validators.

BNBSRB is calculated and published by Staking Rewards via the [BNB Chain Profile](https://www.stakingrewards.com/asset/binance-smart-chain) and [Data API](https://www.stakingrewards.com/data-api).

> **TL;DR:** Since the Feynman upgrade, BNB is staked natively on the BNB Smart Chain. Validators earn a share of transaction gas fees (there is no block subsidy). BNBSRB is the stake-weighted mean, across all active validators, of each validator's annualized reward rate grossed up by that validator's own commission — expressing the network's pre-commission staking rate.

$$
BNBSRB = \frac{\sum\_{v} s\_v \cdot apy\_v / (1 - c\_v)}{\sum\_{v} s\_v}
$$

<table data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th width="141">Formula key</th><th width="158">Metric name</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>s_v</td><td>Validator Staked Tokens</td><td>The amount of BNB delegated to validator <code>v</code>, from the BNB Chain staking API field <code>totalStaked</code>. Weighting by stake makes the benchmark equal to total network rewards divided by total network stake.</td></tr><tr><td>apy_v</td><td>Validator Reward Rate</td><td>The annualized reward rate of validator <code>v</code>, net of that validator's own commission, reported by the BNB Chain staking API. Validators are rewarded from transaction gas fees distributed to delegators; the APY reflects annualized fee rewards per delegated BNB.</td></tr><tr><td>c_v</td><td>Commission</td><td>The commission rate validator <code>v</code> itself charges. Grossing up by <code>1 - c_v</code> restates that validator's net APY as a pre-commission rate.</td></tr></tbody></table>

The sum runs over the active validator set. A validator is excluded from both the numerator and the denominator when the staking API reports no APY for it, or when it charges a 100% commission (for which no pre-commission rate is defined).

Because BNB Smart Chain pays no block subsidy, all staking yield originates from transaction gas fees. As on-chain activity and fee revenue rise, the staking rate rises with it.

#### Slashing

1. BNBSRB does not factor in the possibility of slashing occurrences.
2. BNB Smart Chain does implement slashing: validators are jailed for downtime and face felony slashing for double-signing. These events are not modeled in the benchmark rate.

### BNB Validator Staking Reward Rate: BNBSRB(v)

Staking Rewards publishes each validator's annualized reward rate directly from the BNB Chain staking API.

$$
BNBSRB(v) = apy\_v
$$

<table data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th width="150">Formula key</th><th width="187">Metric name</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>apy_v</td><td>Validator APY</td><td>The validator's annualized reward rate, net of its commission, as reported by the BNB Chain staking API. Reflects the validator's share of gas-fee rewards per delegated BNB.</td></tr><tr><td>c</td><td>Commission</td><td>The commission the validator retains before distributing gas-fee rewards to delegators.</td></tr></tbody></table>

***

#### Observation Period:

1. The BNBSRB is determined based on the latest validator data at the point of evaluation.
2. This data is then annualized for a comprehensive year-long projection.

#### Calculation

The calculation happens every 2 hours and is immediately published via [Data API](https://www.stakingrewards.com/data-api).

#### Limitations

1. BNBSRB employs a 365-day convention for annualizing rewards. This convention remains consistent and does not accommodate adjustments for leap years.
2. Validator APYs are gas-fee driven and therefore vary with network activity; the benchmark reflects the rate at the point of evaluation.
3. BNBSRB does not guarantee the reward rate of any individual validator.

### BNB Real Reward Rate: BNBSRB^R

The real reward rate calculates the BNBSRB adjusted for inflation in the network.

$$
BNBSRB^R = (1 + BNBSRB) / (1 + ir) - 1
$$

<table data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th width="141">Formula key</th><th width="158">Metric name</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>ir</td><td>Inflation Rate</td><td>The annualized net supply change, computed as <code>-(4 * qb * mp / p) / cs</code>, where <code>qb</code> is the most recent quarterly BNB burn amount, <code>mp</code> is the median BNB price over that quarter, <code>p</code> is the current price, and <code>cs</code> is circulating supply. The result is negative, reflecting deflation.</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### Inflation Rate Behavior

BNB Chain has no staking issuance — validators are paid from gas fees, not new supply. Instead, BNB is deflationary: the quarterly BNB Auto-Burn permanently removes BNB from circulation (alongside the BEP-95 real-time gas burn). The inflation rate is expressed as the most recent quarter's burn annualized (×4), value-adjusted to the current price, over circulating supply — yielding a negative rate. A negative inflation rate lifts the real reward rate above the nominal reward rate.

### Other BNB Chain metrics calculated by Staking Rewards:

<table data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th width="212.99999999999994">Metric</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Delegated Tokens</td><td>The number of BNB tokens delegated to validators.</td></tr><tr><td>Staking Wallets</td><td>Total number of unique delegations across validators, from each validator's delegator count.</td></tr><tr><td>Benchmark Commission</td><td>The stake-weighted mean commission rate across active validators.</td></tr><tr><td>Active / Inactive Validators</td><td>The number of validators in and out of the active set.</td></tr><tr><td>Lockup Time</td><td>The commitment period before a delegator can undelegate. Post-Feynman native staking has none, so this is 0 seconds.</td></tr><tr><td>Unstaking Time</td><td>The unbonding period after undelegating before staked BNB is returned. Set by the StakeHub <code>unbondPeriod</code> — 7 days.</td></tr></tbody></table>
